tuesdays at the boulevard

6 times a year, 200+ young adults attend Mass in the crossroads. Following Mass, we gather for fellowship, food and drinks at the Boulevard Brewery. This is a night geared at firing up the community, molding new friendships, and welcoming folks new to KC and City on a Hill.

Regular spiritual direction is an essential element for anyone who desires holiness. During one-on-one spiritual direction sessions, you may develop a game plan for daily prayer, discern to what vocation God might be calling you, and work on overcoming vices in order to cultivate habitual heroic virtue. Sign up for spiritual direction.

Father Andrew Mattingly

Fr. Andrew Mattingly is a priest for the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph. Currently, he is associate pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Kansas City, Missouri while also serving as diocesan director for young adults and campus ministry. Although a lifelong Catholic, Fr. Mattingly went through a period of personal conversion during his last couple years of high school, particularly due to two things: the personal witness of a teacher on fire for love of God and the Church, as well as truly discovering the reality of the Holy Eucharist for the first time. After a semester at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS, Fr. Mattingly transferred to Conception Seminary College, graduating in 2011.  Afterward, he was sent for theology studies in Rome, was ordained a priest in the summer of 2015, and returned for one final year of studies in Rome before coming back to Kansas City permanently in the summer of 2016. In his free time, Fr. Mattingly enjoys playing disc golf, reading about Church history,  and listening to sacred music.

The Lux Mundi Schola Cantorum, founded in 2017, is a liturgical choir comprised of City on a Hill members to sing and provide music for City on a Hill liturgies. "Lux Mundi" comes from Matthew 5:14: "You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid."  Schola cantorum, translated as "singer's school," refers to the musicians that sing Gregorian chant for the Mass, a term derived from the Middle Ages. It is our mission to sing Gregorian chant as well as sacred polyphony, this sacred treasury of Catholic church music, for City on a Hill! Previous choral experience as well as the ability to read music is preferred, but not required! The skills required for this music will be taught at our rehearsals. Lux Mundi is under the direction of Dr. Katherine Schmitz, the music director at Christ the King Catholic Church in KCMO. For more information, questions, or to sign up, please contact Katherine at katschmitz101@gmail.com
